Question: Why do I see garbage characters in my spell check results? When I view the page in my browser I don’t see them.

Answer: The ‘garbage’ characters that you are seeing are cause by invalid character encodings. InSite looks at the character encoding specified by the HTTP headers, then by the content-type META tag, then finally, if no content encoding type is found, it chooses your system’s default encoding. If your page or server specifies an incorrect encoding, than these garbage characters will appear, as InSite will not know how to correctly decode your pages.

These encoding errors typically creep in if you’ve cut and pasted content from a word processor such as Microsoft Word. One such solution is to perform a ‘Find and Replace’ on the offending characters (usually an apostrophe or other punctuation).
