Question: Backlink Monitor reports “No Backlink Found” for many of my backlink URLs, but when I manually check those sites, I find a working backlink. What’s wrong?

Answer: There are two common causes for this behavior.

1) Make sure that the Root URL domain name is EXACTLY the same as the domain that your backlinks point to. If your backlinks do not use “www”, then do not include the “www” prefix on your Root URL. If you use a mix of domain names and you want Backlink Monitor to detect them all, use the “Domain Alias” feature in Advanced Project Settings to tell Backlink Monitor that these are the same site.

2) If the website dynamically embeds the backlink using JavaScript, Backlink Monitor will not detect it. (These links are not SEO friendly anyway and will probably not be detected by search engines.) Backlink Monitor will detect some basic forms of JavaScript embedded, but websites that are heavy on Ajax content will not work. If you’re unsure if this applies to your case, try disabling JavaScript in your browser and visit the website. If your backlink cannot be found with JavaScript disabled, Backlink Monitor will not detect it.

For example, the following sites are JavaScript only:

  • delicious.com
  • trello.com
  • box.com
  • plurk.com
  • issuu.com

3) If the website sends the link through a URL shortener or redirection URL, then it’s not a direct backlink to your site. You must either include that URL shortener in Backlink Monitor’s settings (Settings > Analysis Settings), or include the redirected URL in your Backlink URLs list.

For example, these are some sites that use a redirected/shortened URL:

  • gaiaonline.com
  • blackplanet.com
  • ttlink.com
