The scheduled task did not run because no user account password was entered

Question: I set up InSite to crawl my site once a day, but the status of this task reads “The scheduled task did not run because no user account password was entered”…how do I fix this?

Answer: Windows XP will not allow you to run a scheduled task under an account with no password. There are two solutions to this problem. The first is to assign the account in question a password. The second is to change the Windows security settings to disable this security feature as follows:

For Windows XP Profession users: Go to Start/Administrative Tools/’Local Security Policy/Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only. This is enabled by default, disable it.

For Windows XP Home users: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
Change the key named ‘limitblankpassworduse’ (Type: REG_DWORD) to 0 (disabled) or 1 (enabled).
