Question: Google always says a “Timeout Occurred” or “Timed Out” when trying to download my sitemap. What’s wrong?
Answer: We’re no authority on Google, but in our experience this means your website/webserver can’t send your sitemap file to Google fast enough.
The solution is to either use Inspyder Sitemap Creator’s gzip compression option to reduce the size of your sitemap. You can also use a sitemap index file (available in version 1.2.0 or later), with a reduced sitemap size limit (for example: 1000 URLs) to make your individual sitemaps smaller. It’s also possible to use a combination of the two (sitemap index and gzip).
